Dos Pueblos sophomore Bella Nuno pitched the Chargers to a 13-2 victory at Santa Barbara on Wednesday, giving up only four hits.
Dos Pueblos opened the game with a five-run first, on a Lia Gamberdella triple and a Pau Avina double.
The Chargers put up 5 runs in the first featuring a triple by Lia Gamberdella triple and a double from Pau Avina. The Dons answered in the bottom half with a 2-run homer by Amanda Holguin to make it 5-2.
In the Charger fourth, Nuno helped her own cause with a two-run homer after a Teagan Haley double and a Mia Reveles triple, giving Dos Pueblos an 8-2 lead.Nuno, Riley Monroe, Gamberdella, and Paulina Avina each had two RBIs for the Chargers. Dos Pueblos is now 9-1 in Channel League and 13-4 overall. The same teams meet 3 p.m. Friday at Dos Pueblos.
“I’m proud of the effort today,” Charger coach Mike Gerken said. “I’m especially pleased with Lia Gamberdella’s triple in the first. We set a goal to score early and that was a key moment for us. Bella’s homer really helped, too. Santa Barbara played with a lot of confidence today and shut down our offense for a bit. Bella got us back on track.”
