After a low-scoring first half, San Marcos High erupted for 41 second-half points to beat Buena 57-36 in a non-league boys basketball game at the Thunderhut.

The Royals were held to five first-quarter points and led 16-14 at intermission.

“A big third quarter led by our defense gave us a lead going into the fourth quarter,” said coach Jelani Hicks.

Isaiah Hicks led all scorers with 16 points with 11 coming in the second half.

“John Connolly did a great job setting the tone with his activity on the defensive end,” Hicks added. “It was a great team effort to make the necessary adjustments in the second half.”
