Bishop Diego couldn’t overcome a 25-11 first quarter deficit and lost a Tri-Valley League showdown against St. Bonaventure at home Friday, 67-47.

The Cardinals tried to make a couple of runs, but couldn’t manage to threaten the Seraphs.

“We just didn’t have the energy or heart we needed to make it a game,” Bishop Diego coach James Coronado said. “All the credit goes to those guys. They smacked us in the mouth and our game plan went out the window.”

Bryan Trejo led the Cardinals with 10 points, and kept fighting with all he had.

“My hat goes off to Bryan Trejo, he was the only one out there competing,” Coronado said. “He never gave in and never gave up. That’s all you can ask for. We just didn’t have much other than him.”

The Seraphs’ Dylan Banner led all scorers with 24 points.

With the loss, The Cardinals drop to 4-3 in TVL play and 14-10 overall. The Seraphs are in first place at 5-1, and they play at second-place Cate Monday at 7:30 p.m. The Rams are 4-2.
