Bishop Diego boys water polo went 1-2 in the two-day Pioneer Valley Tournament in Santa Maria on Friday and Saturday.
The Cardinals fell to Birmingham in their lone game on Friday before taking down Frontier and losing to St. Joseph on Saturday.
Birmingham 15, Bishop Diego 7
In the 15-7 loss to Birmingham, senior Noah Peterson led the way with five goals while sophomore David Acuistapace added two goals of his own.
Bishop Diego 10, Frontier 7
On day two, Bishop Diego picked up a 10-7 win over Frontier behind a seven-goal effort by Peterson.
Also in the win, Acuistapace had two more goals and Diego Fallon found the back of the cage.
Defensively, goalie Ben Zoltoski collected multiple saves to lead the defense en route to the win.
“The defense was outstanding with improved team effort,” Cardinal coach Hank Peterson said.
St. Joseph 8, Bishop Diego 6
The Cardinals then rounded out the week with an 8-6 loss.
They were once again led by Noah Peterson, who scored four of the team’s six goals. Lucas Forry added in the other two.
“Fatigue factored into the last game of the day,” Coach Peterson said. “With only one sub available, the Cardinals had difficulty finding the net.”
