Galilea De La Cruz scored 15 points and the Bishop Diego girls beat Santa Clara 42-24 in a Tri-Valley League game Friday.

Jaymi Coronado added 10 points and Lily Simolon nine for the Cardinals.

Bishop Diego ran out to a 22-6 halftime lead, but Santa Clara managed to close the margin to nine, at 26-17, going into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals outscored Santa Clara 16-7 in the final frame.

“Gali had some great drives and hit a big 3 for us,” Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich said. “Lily was so tough tonight. It was a physical game down here last year too, and I know Lily really wanted this win one. She played really well and maintained her composure when things got chippy.

“Jaymi had a nice game running the offense and it was good for her to find some rhythm. We got a huge boost from Siena Urzua off the bench, with her defense and rebounding. She did a great job against their leading scorer and got her off her game.”

The Cardinals are now 3-1 in TVL play and 19-2 overall.
