Bishop Diego has hired an athletic director with years of experience in the position at parochial schools.
John Muller, the athletic director at Ventura’s St. Bonaventure High, will take over the post at Bishop Diego on July 1, announced Karen Regan, Bishop Diego President and Interim Principal.
Muller replaces Aaron Skinner, who accepted a head football coach job and teaching position at Oregon City High School.
In his 14 years at St. Bonaventure, Muller headed a strong athletic department that is showcased by its football program. He served as the interim head football back in 2012
St. Bonaventure and Bishop Diego have played some intense football games against each other over the past few years in non-league and football-only league games. The schools are currently in the Marmonte League for football.
Muller also coached and taught classes at St. Bonaventure.
In addition to his AD responsibilities, he has been serving as the president of the Tri-County Athletic Association, of which Bishop Diego is a member. The TCAA, which includes the Tri-Valley and Frontier Leagues, is composed primarily of private schools in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
Bishop Diego and St. Bonaventure participate in the TCAA in all sports but football.
Muller started his career in Ventura County in 2001 as a teacher and coach at Villanova Prep in Ojai. He became the school’s athletic director in 2005 and resurrected the football program at the school. He held the AD position until leaving for St. Bonaventure in 2009.
“Mr. Muller is a well-known figure in both the local Catholic high school and athletic communities,” said Reagan.
