Bishop Diego softball rounded out its season with an 8-7 loss at the hands of Coastal Christian on Wednesday in Santa Barbara.
“I’m proud of the way the girls closed out this season,” says Coach MeLinda Matsumoto. “They worked as a team all season and struggled through adversity together to grit out some wins by making adjustments and being there for each other. They’ve grown as both athletes and people this season.”
After falling behind 5-0 after three innings, the Cardinals came storming back with three runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to grab a 7-6 lead heading into the seventh.
However, Coastal Christian swung back with two runs in the top of the seventh and slammed the door in the bottom half to escape with the win.
Sarah Fellers drove in three runs to lead the Bishop Diego offense, while Penny Carroll went the distance and just three of her runs allowed were earned.
