Bishop Diego softball erupted for a 23-7 rout of Valley Christian Academy on Thursday in Santa Maria.

The Cardinals scored early and often en route to the win, plating nine runs in the first and adding on six more in the second to pull away.

In the opening frame, Anna Fittipaldi, Madeline Ferries and Keke Flores each drove in two runs while Chelsea Hayes, Emily Lafond and Tara Gregson tallied RBIs as well.

The Cardinals’ offense continued to roll, scoring in all five of the game’s innings, including a five-run fourth inning to put the game away for good.

Fittipaldi had a great all-around performance, tossing four strong innings while allowing two unearned runs on three hits and four strikeouts. She also went 2-for-2, walked four times and drove in four runs in the win.

Santa Paula 18, Carpinteria High 2

The Warriors couldn’t keep up with Santa Paula in a league loss on Thursday.

The Cardinals wasted no time getting to work, scoring seven runs in the first inning and cruising from there. They added four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to pull away down the stretch.

Carpinteria’s two runs came in the fourth inning courtesy of a rally from Sophia Santana, Savanna Cardenas, Anaia Nunez and Delilah Santizo.

The Warriors also had several strong defense plays as Nunez snagged a line drive in the outfield while Alondra Carillo and Cecilia Lemus turned in a pair of double plays.

The Warriors will be on the road against Channel Islands on Monday, Mar. 31.
