From volleyball to golf, Bishop Diego spring sports fielded plenty of impressive individual athletes across all four grade levels.
As a result, the Cardinals picked up a strong amount of All-Tri-Valley League honors.
Boys Volleyball
The Cardinals boys volleyball squad was one of four spring teams to garner six All-League honorees after a solid season that resulted in a CIF-SS Div. 5 playoff berth.
Nick Malesky and John Michael Flint were at the forefront of their success throughout the season, picking up spots on the All-League First Team.
On the All-League Second Team, the Cardinals are represented by Harry Hayman and Damien Krautmann.
The final two All-League honorees for Bishop Diego picked up All-League Honorable Mention nods in Will Neubauer and Thomas Gaggs.
Baseball
On the diamond, Bishop Diego fielded several standout athletes that earned All-League recognition.
Sophomore pitcher Ben Zoltoski served as the ace of the Cardinals’ pitching staff during the spring, giving him the lone All-League First Team spot for the team.
Meanwhile, David Acquistapace and Diego Alvarez made significant contributions with their bats on their way to being named to the All-League Second Team.
The trio of Shane Caballero, Dallas Bartholic and David Timewell also put together solid seasons to pick up All-League Honorable Mentions.
Softball
Staying on the diamond, the Bishop Diego softball team turned in an impressive season with a team that held plenty of underclassmen and newcomers.
After leading the team to an overall record of 12-11-1, MeLinda Matsumoto was named the Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year.
As for the players, Tessa Johansen and Madeline Ferries found themselves in the middle of much of the team’s success as they registered All-League First Team honors.
Lauren Weeks represented the Cardinals on the All-League First Team while Tara Gregson, Chelsea Hayes and Galilea De La Cruz rounded things out as All-League Honorable Mentions.
Boys Golf
The Cardinals’ boys golf squad also found some success with this year’s team, led by Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year Leo Ibarra.
Bishop Diego led all teams in the league with an impressive four All-League First Team, with the honorees being Jack Eliassen, Luke Eliassen, Nathan Borgatello and Conner Carty.
Following up the four-player First Team grouping with an All-League Second Team nod was Bishop Diego’s Dominic DeRosa.
The sixth and final All-League golfer for the Cardinals was Carlos Moreno, who was an All-League Honorable Mention.
Girls Beach Volleyball
Although Bishop Diego did not have any players reach the All-League teams for beach volleyball, they did take home the league’s top individual honor.
The sister duo of Sage and Wynter Thorne-Thomsen were at the center of the Cardinals’ team success this season, which resulted in them being named the Tri-Valley League Players of the Year.
Boys Tennis
The Bishop Diego boys tennis team collected five total All-League selections, five of which were Honorable Mentions.
The lone All-League Second Team player for the Cardinals was Lucas Forry, who found plenty of success in singles play.
Meanwhile, the crop of All-League Honorable Mentions was made up of Carter Bradley, Joe Simolon, Aaron Bush and Agustin Gaona.
Track & Field
On the track, the Cardinals girls 4×100 relay team represented the school on the list of All-League honorees.
The squad of Melina Espinoza, Simone Corra, Sorelle Franco-Comer and Delaney Ball came together to all earn the title of All-League Honorable Mention.
Swimming
Capping off the Bishop Diego spring All-League selections was Tierney Clark, who excelled in the pool for the Cardinals this year.
Clark, a freshman, was awarded All-League First Team honors in both the 100 and 200 freestyle races.
