The Bishop Diego athletics department had quite the spring season, from league championships to individual and team CIF-SS titles. 

As a result, the standout Cardinal individual student-athletes were rewarded with All-Tri-Valley League and All-Frontier League honors for their accomplishments.

Boys Volleyball (TVL)

The Cardinal boys volleyball team made history with the program’s first-ever CIF-SS championship. That run began in the regular season, where they went undefeated in TVL play to earn the league title and give Dillan Bennett the Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year award.

Senior outside hitter John Michael Flint was an unstoppable force all season long for Bishop Diego, dominating his way to the Tri-Valley League MVP honors.

Meanwhile, the trio of senior outside hitter Damien Krautmann, junior setter Luke Walters and junior outside hitter Tyler Roberts were key pieces to the championship squad with All-League First Team seasons.

The senior middle blocker pairing of Kingston Bustos and Tua Rojas held it down at the net for the Cardinals en route to All-League Second Team honors.

Luca Moreno-Murphy, Nico DeRosa and Mikey Gomez capped off the team’s individual standouts as All-League Honorable Mentions.

Girls Beach Volleyball (TVL)

The No. 1 senior duo of Wynter Thorne-Thomsen and Sophie Otte was at the center of Bishop Diego’s success on the beach courts, earning the Tri-Valley League Players of the Year awards.

Fellow Cardinals Olivia Leflang and Addie Barat each had impressive seasons as well, garnering All-League Second Team selections.

Natalie Chan and Elle McMahon made their impacts felt all spring long for the Cardinals, picking up All-League Honorable Mentions.

Baseball (FL)

The Cardinals had one of their best seasons in recent years on the baseball diamond, claiming the Frontier League championship. As a result, head coach Jesse Landeros was named the Frontier League Coach of the Year.

Senior David Timewell played a key role on the mound for Bishop Diego, earning the Frontier League Pitcher of the Year award.

The tandem of senior Ricky Fisher, senior Sean Monaghan, junior Josh Lopez, junior JJ Mercier and sophomore George Guzman showcased the team’s depth across grade levels with All-League First Team campaigns.

Meanwhile, junior Zach Fisher and the freshman trio of Joe DeRosa, Joaquin Adam and Brandon Stein gave Cardinal fans plenty to look forward to next season after being chosen to the All-League Second Team this year.

Softball (TVL)

Bishop Diego battled throughout the season with a team full of multi-sport athletes, resulting in head coach Melinda Matsumoto being named the Tri-Valley League Co-Coach of the Year.

Senior first baseman Sarah Fellers was a big bat in the middle of the Cardinal lineup and was rewarded as an All-League First Team member.

Junior outfielder Eden Wynne and sophomore shortstop Keke Flores found plenty of success as well on their way onto the All-League Second Team.

The senior trio of second baseman Natalie Rodriguez, catcher Pilar Alvarez and pitcher Penny Carroll rounded out their high school years with All-League Honorable Mention seasons.

Boys Golf (TVL)

The Cardinals had another successful season on the golf course, with senior Luke Eliassen leading the way as the team’s All-League First Team representative.

Senior Jack Eliassen, senior William Scribner and freshman Joe DeRosa showcased the present and the future of the Bishop Diego program as All-League Second Team members this season.

The senior duo of Ben Zoltoski and Gabe Villa put the finishing touches on their Cardinal careers with All-League Honorable Mentions.

Swim (TVL)

Tierney Clark had a stellar individual season in the pool, claiming a pair of CIF-SS Individual championships in the postseason.

Meanwhile, she earned an All-League First Team selection in the 100 freestyle and an All-League Second Team nod in the 200 freestyle in the regular season.

Track & Field (TVL)

The 4×100 relay team of Connor Boyd, Remi Boykin, Josh Lopez and Gabe Phillips led the charge for the Bishop Diego track & field squad, earning All-League Second Team honors.

Individually, Aiden Garcia was named to the All-League Second Team and Frank Macias pulled in an All-League Honorable Mention.

Boys Tennis (TVL)

The Bishop Diego trio of Jaden Olds, Carter Bradley and Joaquin Gaona rounded out the team’s spring honorees as All-League Honorable Mentions for the boys tennis team.
