Bralyon Katers led an impressive serving performance by the Bishop Diego boys volleyball team in a 25-5, 25-14, 25-15 sweep at Carpinteria on Tuesday.

Katers served 12 of the Cardinals’ 33 aces in the season opener. He also added a kill for a team-high 13 points.

Austin Carty had 11 points on four aces, six kills and a block.

“We’re pretty pleased with how quickly the team has come off their winter sports seasons and turned their focus onto the volleyball season,” said coach Dillan Bennett. “We have a mixed group of players this season, with half of the team being seniors and the other half being underclassmen.

“Last season left a bitter taste in our mouths, and his group is hungry to be competitive in our league and our division of CIF this year. We’re excited to get going.”

The Cardinals head to Pioneer Valley for a non-league contest Thursday.
