Bishop Diego was eliminated in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 boys volleyball playoffs on Thursday, swept by Anaheim, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20.
The Cardinals finished the season 19-12.
Braylon Katers led Bishop with nine kills and seven digs and fellow senior Liam Flood chipped in seven kills, 11 digs and and a service ace. Canaan Ramirez picked up 15 digs.
Coach Dillan Bennett said the Cardinals hurt themselves by committing too many errors.
“Ultimately, we approached each match this season relying on our physicality,” he said. “I’ll take our athletes over just about anybody at the level we compete at. That style of play will produce both a high rate of point scoring and a high rate of error commitment. No matter what adjustments were made, we couldn’t find a way to put any point scoring pressure on Anaheim.”
Despite the loss, Bennett said it was enjoyable season with is group.
“This was one of my favorite teams to work with, and I’ll cherish this season as one of the more special ones I I’ve been lucky enough to be part of,” he said. “I’m grateful for what the seniors brought to our program. Their work over the last few years will pave the way for what is to come from Bishop Diego boys volleyball.”
