The Bishop Diego boys and girls basketball teams received berths in the CIF State Tournament on Sunday, with the boys team getting a first-round home game.

The Cardinals (21-12) will host El Segundo-Vistamar (25-5) on Tuesday at 7 p.m., in a Division 5 opener. It’s a rematch of the Southern Section 5AA Division semifinal game won by Bishop Diego, 59-50, at the Brick House gym.

The Bishop Diego girls (23-9) will travel to San Diego on Tuesday to face Madison for a Division 5 state tournament opener.

Madison is 15-17, but it got hot in the San Diego Section Division 3 playoffs and advanced to the final, losing to top-seeded Point Loma by one point, 56-55.

The Bishop Diego girls lost to Ganesha, 58-35, in the Southern Section 5A championship game. Ganesha, because of the size of its enrollment, is playing in Division 4 of the state tournament.

Bishop Diego’s boys lost at the buzzer against Arrowhead Christian, 62-60, in the 5AA championship game on Saturday. Arrowhead Christian hosts Classical Academy of Escondido in a Division 5 first-round game.

The second round games of the state tournament are on Thursday.
