Bishop Diego’s Bryan Trejo scored 10 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Cardinals to a 45-38 win over Quartz Hill Friday in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3A playoffs.

Kai Morphy added 14 points for Bishop Diego.

The game was close throughout, knotted at the half at 17.

“I can’t say enough about Bryan Trejo and Qu’ran Gossett and their physical play,” Bishop coach James Coronado said. “Our team was not playing well and those two kept us in it with timely baskets and tough rebounds.

“I felt Qu’ran out-rebounded their entire team in a couple of big stretches and it saved us some possessions when we needed them most. Quartz Hill definitely had us playing their game so we were out of sorts on offense all game so we needed something or someone to create some momentum and Trejo and Gossett did that for us big time.”
