Bishop Diego lost two games on the opening day of the Western Tournament in Anaheim, 11-2 to host Western High School and 8-4 to Santa Ana.

Against the Western Pioneers, Max Schwarz and David Acquistapace scored the two Bishop Diego goals, and goalie Reagan Adams had seven blocks.

Against Santa Ana, Paul Zoltoski scored three goals, and Adams had 13 blocks. The Cardinals were down 4-0 at the half, and rallied in a 4-4 second half.

“After a poor showing against Western in the first game of the day, our team rose to the occasion and played with intensity and focus against Santa Ana,” Bishop Diego coach Connor Levoff said.

“We played our best game of the season defensively and got our counterattack rolling in the second half. Senior Paul Zoltoski played his most complete game as a Cardinal, consistently impacting the game on both ends of the pool as we played an even second half.”

The Cardinals, now 4-4 on the season, play two more games at the tournament on Saturday.
