Bishop Diego clinched a playoff spot with an 8-6 season-ending victory of Dunn in a Tri-Valley League game Friday.

A six-run fifth inning did the trick for the Cardinals, including a tape-measure home run by Gabe Martinez in the inning. Martinez went 2-for-4 on the day.

Jack Stowe had three RBIs on a double and a single. Ashton Pelly went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Pelly also pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and six runs (just two of them earned) and five strikeouts.

Nico Sanchez, Dax Donati and Luc Maho all had a hit apiece for Bishop Diego.

“It was nice to accomplish our goal of making the playoffs,” Cardinals assistant coach Jimmy Brakka said. “We are all proud of the kids for playing hard in a win-or-go-home game. Pelly showed us what he’s made of out there today, and did really well at getting us back in the dugout with some clutch pitches.

“Now the fun begins.”
