Matthew Cunningham bounced back from an ankle injury for 12 kills, an ace and six digs for Bishop Diego in a 3-2 Tri-Valley League win over Foothill Tech on Wednesday.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-10, 15-13.
Connor Streett contributed with seven kills, four blocks and two aces off the bench. Logo Va’a, fresh off the football season, had six kills and three blocks in the middle.
With the win, Bishop Diego improves to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in league play, good for second place. The Cardinals, ranked No. 3 in CIF-SS Division 5, await playoff draws on Saturday.
“After a pretty long layoff, our team had about the toughest turnaround you could imagine,” Bishop Diego coach Dillon Bennett said. “With the addition of three new players, we had almost no practice before having to play Laguna Blanca last night. After getting beaten up pretty soundly, I’m really proud of how our guys bounced back and played today.
“We were far from perfect, and we have a few days to practice before playoffs if we are fortunate enough to be accepted as an at-large.”
