The Bishop Diego girls tennis team won its Frontier League opener and its first match of the season with 16-2 decision over Dunn at the Municipal Tennis Courts on Tuesday.

“We were at full strength today and played with confidence,” said coach Peter Kirkwood. “We won eight sets in both singles and doubles and were able to play all 12 players.

Senior No. 1 Sam Kenney led the way, sweeping her three sets and dropping only two games. Freshman Elisha McCullough also swept.

In doubles, the new pairing of Anja Faasbind and Cecily Puech went 2-0 on the day.  Rafaela Fay and Senta Spielhagen also went 2-0 and lost one game. Gallalea De la Cruz and Lauren Weeks recovered nicely from a sluggish first round to finish the day with  6-1, 6-0 wins. Devon Robinson and Leanna Ibarra won 6-0 in their only round.
