Bishop Diego’s boys volleyball team learned some valuable lessons in its 25-18, 25-21, 25-14 loss to a solid Oxnard team on Tuesday night at the Brick House.
“I think our guys got to see what it looks like to be a strong program,” Bishop coach Dillan Bennett said. “Where we are strong athletically, Oxnard is strong in their volleyball IQ, and they made us earn a lot of points tonight. With that said, I was really impressed with how our guys responded to the pressure of Oxnard. We are looking forward to getting pushed some more this weekend at the DP Invitational.”
Logo Va’a led the Cardinals with seven kills with a .308 hitting average. Shea Romero had three kills, three aces and passed well.
“Tonight, he served tough against an Oxnard team that has only been aced 12 times all year,” said Bennett of Romero.
On Va’a, Bennett said: “Logo was smooth tonight. He did a lot of things well, and he’s starting to understand where the open spots on the court are. When we can get him opportunities to hit the ball, our offense opens up.”
The Cardinals (3-2) will play Harvard Westlake, Buena and Quartz Hill in pool play at the Dos Pueblos Invitaitonal on Saturday.
