A popular Nashville-style hot chicken chain offering chicken so spicy that it needs a waiver officially opens in Santa Maria on Friday.
The chain, Angry Chickz, is opening its doors at 2102 S. Bradley Road, making it one of its newest locations out of more than 30 across the country.
“Expanding into Santa Maria is a natural next step for us as we continue growing along the California coast,” founder and CEO David Mkhitaryan told Noozhawk. “We can’t wait to introduce the brand to a new neighborhood and bring high energy, bold flavors and an experience that people can make their own every time they come in.”
The restaurant offers chicken tenders, sliders and bowls that diners can choose to make as spicy as they want, with six spice levels.
The spiciest level, named “angry,” requires customers to be older than 18 and sign a waiver and release of liability form.
Before its expansion to Santa Maria, the closest Angry Chickz location was in Ventura.

Thursday through Saturday, it offers “ticketed live music,” including dinner, wine and desserts.
