“We were a little conservative running all our kids in the 1.9 mile short course today,” Perdices added. “I knew we’d have some tired legs coming off the league meet Wednesday. Casitas is a challenging course either way and the conditions can be really tough there. It’s still early in the season and we’ll go back there in a few weeks and run kids in the longer race. I’m really happy with how we’ve started the season and looking forward to seeing what this team can do the rest of the way.”
Sophie Saleh paced the Chargers on the short course with 14:05.51.
Carpinteria’s top three performers in the 3-mile race were Kate Cooney, 13th place with 21:46 for the girls, and for the boys Eduardo Vences, 16th place in 18:39 and Hugo Alvarado 27th place in 19:43.
“It was warm this morning but it did not stop our kids from getting out there and competing. Many competed in the 1.9 mile race today with most competing for the very first time after not participating in any sports this past year and a half,” Warriors coach Angel Silva said.
