Bobby Jean Eakes passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Visalia, California, at the age of 82.
Born on March 23, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bobby dedicated his life to service, family and faith. After graduating high school, he joined the military out of a deep sense of duty and honor for his country. He was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base and was honorably discharged in 1966.
In 1965, Bobby married Lily Eakes, with whom he shared a devoted and loving partnership. He built a successful career, starting at a service center before eventually owning and operating it from 1980 to 1998. After selling the business, he and Lily worked together as greeters at Walmart in Santa Maria, California. Bobby’s warm presence was shone as he played his guitar and sang for hours, bringing joy to those around him.
A man of deep faith, Bobby was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ on Tunnel Street in Santa Maria. He found happiness in hiking outdoors, traveling, music, singing, telling jokes, collecting antiques, and cherishing time with his family.
Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lily Eakes; his parents, Naomi and Connie Eakes; his sisters Connie Lee (Mike) Jones and Darlene (William) Justiss; and his grandchildren Devan Eakes and Naomi Brooks.
He is survived by his children: Bobby Eakes Jr. (Stacy Eakes) and Lily (Danny) Brooks; grandchildren Nicholas Bryant, Sabrina Eakes, Sheyanne Eakes, Mariah (Dustin) Barclay, Justin (Sadie) Brooks, Haidon Brooks, and Kaleb Brooks; and great-grandchildren Ariel Bryant, Connor Bryant, Kylie Barclay, Nathan Barclay, and Karsyn Brooks.
Bobby’s life was richly lived in service and love. His memory will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have known him. We find comfort in knowing that dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will forever cherish.
A graveside service will be held at Santa Maria Cemetery, 1501 S. College Dr., Santa Maria, CA 93454, on March 21, 2025, at 11 a.m.
