A man’s body was recovered on Sunday from a pond at Waller Park, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s Dive Team was called to the park located at the south end of Santa Maria. said Raquel Zick, public information officer.
The death did not initially appear suspicious, Zick added.
However, detectives from the Coroner’s Bureau will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death to determine the cause.
Additional information about the man, including his name, will not be released until family members are notified.
Although its located in Santa Maria, the 154-acre Waller Park, 3107 Orcutt Road, is managed by the Santa Barbara County Parks Department, and has ponds popular with ducks and geese.
