For the second day in a row, the Laguna Blanca boys played a highly rated team at home and stayed close for a half before falling — on Saturday to AGBU by a score of 64-41.

The Owls were down by just seven at the half, 35-28, to the Titans, ranked seventh in CIF-SS Division 2, in a matinee game. On Friday night, Laguna Blanca fell to Hillcrest Christian 72-41 after a close first half.

Junior Charlie Sheldon led the Owls Saturday with 17 points, and sophomore Carson Stewart added 15. Eka Nayak collected 10 rebounds.  

“I felt the kids really played well,” Laguna Blanca coach Phil Sherman said. “We pressed and trapped the entire game and used the entire lineup.”

Laguna Blanca is now 5-5 overall. The Owls start the Frontier League season Wednesday at Grace Brethren.

Nordhoff 60, Carpinteria 19

The Carpinteria boys lost a Citrus Coast League basketball game to Nordhoff Saturday, 60-19.

Sophomore Sebastian Campuzano led the Warriors in scoring with 11 points.

The Warriors are now 3-14 overall and 1-4 in the CCL. They play at Malibu on Wednesday in another league game. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
