Santa Barbara sophomore Luke Zuffelato scored 24 points but the Dons dropped their third straight game at the Pacifica Tournament in Oxnard, 69-59 to Royal.
Owen Debusk and Waylon Finkel chipped in nine points apiece, and sophomore DJ Wilson stepped up and played solid defense.
“We are learning and getting better each day,” Santa Barbara coach Corey Adam said. “Day to day, we are learning to be more physical, which will be a valuable trait for us down the road.”
The Dons, now 4-6 on the season, continue tournament play with a game against Spring Valley of Nevada at noon.
Channel Islands 59, Carpinteria 48
Carpinteria senior Kainoa Glasgow scored 23 points in a losing effort against Channel Islands to open Citrus Coast League play Friday.
Senior Rodolfo Jimenez contributed 11 points, and sophomore Carlo Suarez scored eight points, led the team in rebounds and took multiple charges.
Carpinteria is now 1-8 overall and 0-1 in CCL play. The Warriors at Nordhoff on Monday in another league matchup.
