San Marcos boys basketball dominated on both ends of the court in a 74-33 win over Righetti on Saturday inside the Thunderhut.
“Awesome job tonight. I thought we made that win feel easier than it was,” San Marcos head coach Matt Jordan said. We played really well tonight. What I’m most proud of with this group so far is their buy-in on the defensive end.
“I think we’ve started to figure out collectively that the only way for this team to be elite is if we are an elite defensive team. The guys have bought in, and it’s showing on the scoreboard.”
Koji Hefner was the focal point of the Royals’ offense with a team-high 19 points. Meanwhile, Sergio Landeros and Aidan Conlan closely followed with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
“In a lot of ways, I thought Koji approached this game the best he has all year,” Jordan said. “He was incredibly aggressive and deliberate to score from the jump, and they had no answer.
“Sergio Landeros continues to be a revelation for us. He’s legitimately an outstanding basketball player now, and we are going to continue to expect him to produce like this all year.”
San Marcos will face off against a pair of strong league opponents next week. It will be on the road against Oxnard on Monday before clashing with Santa Barbara High on Thursday.
“A huge week of league is coming up, with Oxnard and Santa Barbara on the horizon,” Jordan said. “We are going to have to play excellently to have a shot at beating either. Really excited for the challenge.”
