The Santa Barbara boys couldn’t get the shots to fall late in a 53-49 loss to Spring Valley of Nevada Saturday on the final day of the Pacifica Tournament in Oxnard.

The game was close throughout, including a 21-21 halftime score.

“We had a lot of open looks but could not get consecutive shots to fall to create a run” late in the game, Dons coach Corey Adam said.  “We had 3-4 good looks in the last three minutes to tie the game but were not able to get any to fall.  

“Proud of the boys for playing through some adversity this week. A lot of growth was made on their part.”

Santa Barbara, now 4-7, was led in scoring by three sophomores: Carter Battle, who returned from an injury to score 13, Luke Zuffelato with 12, and DJ Wilson with nine.

Mission Prep 84, Dos Pueblos 38

The Dos Pueblos boys finished the Mission Prep Tournament with a 84-38 loss to the host Royals.

“Tonight we ran into a good Mission Prep basketball team,” Charger coach Joe Zamora said. “They were able to get a lot of offensive rebounds. Their ‘bigs’ got a lot of put-backs.”

Joe Talarico led Dos Pueblos with 10 points. and Matthew Zamora added eight points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Daniel Mauldin stepped up again, matching their physical play.”

The Chargers, now 1-4, play at Santa Barbara on Friday.

Porterville 66, Santa Ynez 55

Santa Ynez’s Caleb Cassidy scored 23 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a losing effort at the Arroyo Grande Tournament Saturday

Jackson Ollenburger added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Pirates, and Ikenna Ofiaeli had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Santa Ynez will host Cate on Tuesday.
