Santa Barbara High boys golf concluded the regular season by taking down crosstown rival Dos Pueblos on Thursday at Santa Barbara Golf Club.

It was a tight battle throughout, but the Dons’ team score of 384 was enough to beat out the Chargers’ mark of 396 on the par-70 course.

“I want [my team] to feel proud of all they have accomplished this season,” Dos Pueblos head coach Kevin Ahlers said. “There is plenty of postseason golf to be played and I told them to use this as bulletin board material for the playoffs.

“It is always very fun to play Santa Barbara as the matches are very competitive. I want to applaud Santa Barbara on their good scores and wish them the best in the playoffs.”

Santa Barbara High’s Alex Ortega celebrated his Senior Day with a medalist performance, shooting an even-par 70 to lead all golfers.

The other Dons golfers were Logan Gankas (74), Jack Alzina (78), Peyton Webley (80), Tyler Satterberg (82) and Evryn Kneafsey (89).

“The boys started out strong today in the first six holes and held on for the win against a well-coached Charger team,” Santa Barbara High head coach Ryan Throop said.

As for the Chargers, Connor Nightingale led the way by shooting an even-par 72. He was followed by Colt Roberts (76), Orlando Ramirez-Gijon (81), Sam MacNaughton (82) and Parker Hickman (85).

Santa Barbara High (13-2, 6-1 Channel League) and Dos Pueblos (15-6, 5-2 CL) will compete in the Channel League Individual Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at River Ridge Lakes Course.

“This is our sixth straight Channel League championship, and I couldn’t be more proud of all the boys that have contributed to our success,” San Marcos head coach Jeff Ashton said.
