The Bishop Diego boys lost their first Tri-Valley League game of the season at home against Santa Clara Friday, 49-42.
Santa Clara took a 16-13 lead after the first quarter and never trailed.
“Credit to those guys, they took it to us early and often and we just couldn’t get it together after that,” Bishop Diego coach James Coronado said. “Our rotations were off all night, our ball movement was non-existent, and we had no heart.
“We need to be better and we will be, but I can’t take anything away from them. They took this game from us, at home.”
The Cardinals closed to within a couple of points in the second half but couldn’t overtake the Saints.
“We had our chances, but every time we needed a stop or a good shot, we would have a mental lapse with our rotations or a critical turnover,” Coronado said. “You can’t expect to win games playing like that.”
Bryan Trejo led the Cardinals with 12 points. Victor Barragan topped the Saints with 18.
Bishop Diego is now 3-1 in TVL play and 13-7 overall.
Nordhoff 58, Carpinteria 46
Carpinteria senior Kainoa Glasgow scored 17 points but the Warriors fell to Nordhoff 58-46 in a Citrus Coast League game Friday.
Sophomore Sebastian Campuzano scored nine points for Carpinteria. Sophomore Carlo Suarez added eight points and senior Rodolfo Jimenez seven.
The Warriors, now 1-6 in CCL play and 3-16 overall, host Channel Islands on Wednesday.
Laguna Blanca 72, Foothill Tech 60
Carson Stewart led four players in double figures for the Owls in the upset of Frontier League favorite Foothill Tech.
Stewart scored 19 points, Michael Wang had 17, Charlie “The Rifleman” Sheldon tossed in 16 and Eka Nayak added 11 and grabbed 12 rebounds to pace Laguna Blanca.
The Owls survived a Foothill Tech run that saw their lead clipped to four points (49-45). Sheldon knocked down some timely three pointers to build the lead up to 15 points.
