Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse took control early and never surrendered en route to a 17-1 victory over Thacher on Thursday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
With the victory, the Chargers have now begun the season with a perfect record of 10-0, including a 2-0 Channel League mark.
“This is the best start we’ve had in program history and it’s testament to the hard work the players have put in building this program over the years,” Dos Pueblos head coach Lucas Martinez said. “These guys all work so hard day in and day out, and it’s nice to see the fruits of that labor show up in the results.
“I really like the way we played as a team today and got everyone involved… Thacher is always a classy team, and we always appreciate our games with them.”
The Dos Pueblos duo of Dan Finneran and Orion Prewarski started the game with a bang, scoring four and three goals, respectively, in the opening quarter to build a 7-0 lead.
From there, the Charger offense was a well-oiled machine as they continued to pull away from the Toads. In the end, 15 of the team’s 17 goals were assisted.
Jack Finneran dished out four of those assists to go along with two goals while Parker Bentley collected three goals and three assists. Chase Carlson celebrated his birthday with a pair of goals.
Rohan Wansor netted his first career goal while Austin Fauver and Finn Nelson Walker each scored as well.
“I was especially proud of a guy like Rohan, who has put so much work in over the last few years to improve his game. I know his goal is just the first of many,” Martinez said.
Meanwhile, long pole midfielder Drew Schultz caused a turnover and scooped up eight ground balls.
Dos Pueblos will now head into Spring Break and will resume on Tuesday, April 1 to host rival San Marcos.
Cate 8, San Marcos 7
The Rams survived a late comeback effort to earn a Channel League victory over San Marcos on Thursday in Carpinteria.
Cate jumped out to an early lead in the opening quarter and held onto it for the entirety of the first half.
However, the Royals came out of halftime on a mission as Preston Fehr, Luke Matthews and Julian Weinstein all scored to cut the Rams’ lead to just one goal.
The Cate defense then tightened back up down the stretch as they were able to hold on for the 8-7 rivalry win.
San Marcos will be on the road against Dos Pueblos after Spring Break on Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. Cate will host Thacher at 4 p.m. that same day.
