Cate 16, Carpinteria High 2

The Rams continued to roll with a victory over their crosstown rival Warriors on Tuesday in Carpinteria.

“[Cate] is a very good team and obviously very deep as they did not even start their top three singles players,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “I did not come away from this match as happy as I have been after our last two one-sided losses. It took us a long time to get going today.

“Towards the end of the second round, we started to get a bit more comfortable, although the scores didn’t reflect it. We stayed in points longer and cut back on errors, but it still was not nearly enough.”

Alex Danely, Kendrick Suen and Noah Bien got the start for Cate in singles play, while Kaden Green and Bruce Li both subbed in to earn victories.

The Rams’ pairings of James He/Kenny Wang, Graham Clinger/Kiy Barry, Ramsey Bolton/Nolan Hsing and Kakeru Hirofuji/Nate Koh contributed to a doubles sweep with just six games lost.

The lone Carpinteria points came on a pair of singles victories by Edwin Hernandez.

Cate (10-0, 7-0 Tri-Valley League) will compete in the league individual. tournament on Saturday. The Warriors (7-5, 4-1 Citrus Coast League) will take on Hueneme on Thursday in Carpinteria.
