Bishop Diego boys volleyball continued its undefeated start to the 2025 campaign with a four-set win over Foothill Tech on Tuesday inside the Brick House
The Cardinals (6-0, 2-0 Tri-Valley League) bounced back from a third-set loss to clinch the win in four, 25-22, 25-19, 11-25, 25-20.
“We played well going into the third set but struggled a bit with errors and had some blocking mistakes,” Bishop Diego student managers Dominic Herrera and Carlos Moreno said. “However, we fought through it and got the job done in the end.
“The team showed great resilience and showed their experience in tough situations, and that’s what allowed us to come out on top.”
John Michael Flint was active on both ends with a team-high 18 kills to go along with six digs. Meanwhile, both Nick Malesky and Damien Krautmann hammered down 12 kills.
Will Neubauer facilitated the offense to the tune of 45 assists while also turning in a strong performance at the service line.
The Cardinals will host Oaks Christian on Wednesday at 5 p.m. inside the Brick House.
Laguna Blanca 3, Dunn 0
The Owls opened up Tri-Valley League action with a sweep of Dunn in Santa Ynez, 25-15, 25-12, 25-12.
Beckett Smythe had a strong night from the service line and at the net defensively while Baylor Wilson ran an efficient 5-1 offense. Finley Sutherland fueled the offense with strong swings from the middle.
Laguna Blanca (4-1, 1-0 TVL) will be on the road for a non-league matchup with Arroyo Grande on Thursday.
“We continue to build and improve game by game,” Owls coach Tanner Stevens said. “We look forward to a tough test on Thursday at Arroyo Grande.”
Carpinteria 3, Pacifica 2
The Warriors went on the road and pulled out a five-set win over the Tritons in Oxnard, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11.
“We started strong, taking the first set, but let sets two and three slip away due to our own mistakes,” Carpinteria High head coach Favian Muralles said. “Fortunately, the team refocused, locked in and committed to finishing the match on top.”
Alan Maya (28 digs, 10 kills) and Jesus Campuzano (31 digs, 8 kills) paced the Warriors both offensively and defensively in the win. Rafael Cintura ended with nine kills as well.
Meanwhile, Alariuziel Rodriguez and Jesus Reyes played key roles at the setter position with 22 and 15 assists, respectively.
Carpinteria (6-4) will begin Citrus Coast League action on the road on Thursday against Channel Islands.
Dos Pueblos 3, Oak Park 2
The Chargers pulled off the reverse sweep of Oak Park on the road on Tuesday, 14-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9.
“The Eagles are a great blocking team with some crafty outsides and for the first few sets we were at a loss for point production,” Dos Pueblos head coach Ehren Hug said. “The coaches and I were proud of the players’ ability to turn the page and start a new match in set three and never look back.”
Noah Grant found his groove offensively for the Chargers late in the match, ending with a team-high 16 kills to go along with six digs, four aces and three blocks.
“We started diversifying our attack and found success,” Hug said. “Noah got in a groove from the third set on and the confidence snowballed. All the seniors really stepped up when we needed them and led the team to victory.”
Wyatt Silver also had a big all-around match with 36 assists, six digs, four aces, four blocks and three kills. Kawin Ramko chipped in 13 kills and eight digs while Enzo DeMatteo ended with 13 digs for the Chargers.
Dos Pueblos (5-0) will begin Channel League play on Thursday at 5 p.m. inside Sovine Gym.
Redondo Union 3, San Marcos 0
The Royals suffered a non-league loss to Redondo Union on Tuesday inside the Thunderhut. The final set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-20.
Matteo Burdick had a big game on the outside for San Marcos with 18 kills on 31 attempts.
Freshman Jamie Hetrick had a solid night in his Thunderhut debut with three kills on five attempts and no errors.
The Royals (3-4) will host Buena for their Channel League opener on Thursday at 6 p.m.
