Santa Barbara High boys volleyball took care of business with a three-set sweep of Pacifica on Thursday inside J.R. Richards Gym.
The Dons (9-2, 4-0 Channel League) won all three sets comfortably with scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-17.
Kristian Dybdahl led the Santa Barbara High offense with 10 kills on the outside while Alec Hamman and Jasper Bell each ended with six kills. In the middle, Carter Hubbard slammed down five kills.
The pairing of Huxley McGetrick and Mason Morales facilitated the offensive attack with 22 and eight assists, respectively.
The Dons will now head into Spring Break where the team will be traveling to Hawai’i to compete in the 16-team Iolani Tournament.
Santa Barbara High will begin pool play next Thursday with matchups against Iolani, Poway and KS Hawai’i.
Dos Pueblos 3, Oxnard 1
The Charger took down the Yellow Jackets in four sets on the road on Thursday, 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-14.
“I thought we attacked the ball well tonight with pretty good efficiency,” Dos Pueblos head coach Ehren Hug said. “The guys in the back row did great too, getting stopped before contact and playing a bunch of balls high off the block and the transition looked clean.”
Noah Grant had a big offensive night to the tune of 20 kills while Kawin Ramko recorded 15 of his own. Grant also had seven digs while Ramko picked up five.
“It’s nice to get a league win heading into Spring Break where we get a few days off to rest and regroup,” Hug said. “I’m super proud of this team’s development this first half of the season and we are in a good place heading into the second half.”
Dos Pueblos (10-3, 4-1 Channel League) will be back in action against Santa Barbara High on Tuesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. inside Sovine Gym.
Carpinteria High 3, Hueneme 0
The Warriors went on the road and earned a sweep of the Vikings, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.
“The team put together a solid performance, with strong serving playing a key role in the win,” Carpinteria High head coach Favian Muralles said. “Everyone stepped up, staying disciplined and focused throughout the match.”
Alariuziel Rodriguez (23 digs, 7 kills, 3 blocks) and Alan Maya (19 digs, 8 assists, 6 kills) filled up the stat sheet in the victory while Rafael Montes tallied six big blocks.
“The team’s energy and execution were on point, and it was great to see them play with confidence,” Muralles said.
The Warriors (8-8, 2-2 Citrus Coast) will host Righetti to begin next week.
San Marcos 3, Ventura 0
The Royals picked up a sweep of their own over the Cougars on Thursday inside the Thunderhut, 25-20, 25-14, 25-12.
Ayden Welch had a strong offensive night with 10 kills on 15 attempts without committing a single error.
Meanwhile, Matteo Burdick chipped in eight kills and Calvin Frisell served up five aces.
Cate 3, Providence 1
The Rams pulled out a victory in four sets over the Patriots in a non-league match on Thursday.
Cate came out hot and won the opening two sets before Providence stole set three. However, the Rams settled back in and completed the victory in four.
“We just lost the serving and passing game,” Providence head coach Dan Terry said. “We weren’t passing well and weren’t able to put enough pressure on them on our serves. Cate passed very well for the most part, not giving up a single ace to us.
“On top of that, we missed a lot of serves. We will definitely be working on tuning that up in the future.”
Jordan LaBrie led the Patriots with 11 kills while Ben Rupnow and Sam Olyinyk had seven kills apiece.
“Overall, I’m actually really happy with what I saw,” Terry said. “I really needed our middles to have a better game, but when they started connecting it made a difference. With some small tweaks, we could have won game two and we did win game three.
“That shows me we can win games against good teams. We have a good team and we are going to surprise some people this season. I think we surprised Cate a bit today by taking a game off them.”
Providence will host Hueneme on Friday at 5 p.m.
