Carpinteria High dropped a neck-and-neck boys water polo showdown with Santa Ynez High by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday in Santa Ynez.
The first half went back and forth, with Oscar De Leon getting the Warriors in front before the Pirates answered later in the first quarter to even the score. After a second-quarter goal by Carpinteria’s Junius Fedders, Santa Ynez scored twice just before the break to take a 3-2 lead into halftime.
The Warriors opened the third quarter strong, with Cade McCallister scoring twice and Ryder Shaw adding two goals of his own to keep the game close.
The two sides remained close throughout the fourth quarter, but the Pirates pulled away with a few goals down the stretch to earn the win.
Stefano Piccoleti had a strong day in the cage for Carpinteria with nine blocks and seven steals.
The Warriors will host Villanova Prep for a league matchup on Wednesday.
Ventura 16, Santa Barbara 7
The Dons dropped a non-league game with the Cougars on Tuesday in Santa Barbara.
Mason Walsh did a little bit of everything for Santa Barbara, tallying three goals, three assists and three exclusions earned. Paolo Borgioli also filled up the stat sheet with two goals, two blocks and two exclusions earned.
Jack Fullbeck also shined on both ends of the pool with a pair of goals and four steals.
Santa Barbara High will host Santa Ynez for another league matchup on Thursday.
