San Marcos opened a busy week of high school boys water polo with a 17-12 victory over Torrey Pines on Wednesday at Elings Aquatic Center.

The Royals will be back in action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Corona Del Mar and Grossmont at 3 p.m. and 7:20 p.m., respectively. Those games open the Santa Barbara Invitational, a 24-team tournament that also features Dos Pueblos.

In Wednesday’s win, San Marcos held onto a slim 4-3 lead after the first quarter. However, the Royals fully took control in the second and third quarters, taking a 14-8 lead into the fourth.

Torrey Pines poured in four goals in a fourth-quarter comeback attempt, but San Marcos held on for the win. 

Ryder Wilson did a little bit of everything for the Royals, collecting five goals, four steals and three assists. Meanwhile, Indiana Roth tallied three goals and three steals, and Brandon Lee scored twice.

Carpinteria High 16, Hueneme 1

The Warriors opened Citrus Coast League play with a rout of Hueneme on Wednesday at the Carpinteria City Pool.

The Carpinteria duo of Stefano Picoletti and Cade McCallister spearheaded the dominant defensive effort, while several Warriors contributed to the potent offensive attack.

The Warriors will host Agoura High on Thursday.
