Santa Barbara High boys water polo punched its ticket to the Saddleback Tournament with a pair of victories on Friday.
The Dons began the weekend with a 13-12 comeback win over Westminster and maintained their momentum with a 15-12 victory over Torrance. SB will face Yorba Linda in the semifinals on Saturday.
Santa Barbara High found itself trailing Westminster 11-9 with two minutes on the clock, but Paolo Borgioli led a four-goal flurry to power the Dons to the win.
Borgioli scored the game-tying goal and dished off the game-winning assist to Jack Fulbeck. Borgioli totaled seven goals, while Fulbeck had a hat trick and Gio Garcia tallied one goal and three assists.
In the win over Torrance, Borgioli continued his dominance with six goals and four exclusions earned. Fulbeck also stayed hot with four goals and four assists.
Luke Karman secured a trio of goals, and Mason Walsh did a little bit of everything with two goals, four assists and four steals.
Malibu 6, Carpinteria High 4
The Warriors dropped a defensive struggle with Malibu on Friday in Carpinteria.
After Malibu opened the scoring with an early first-quarter goal, Ryder Shaw answered back for Carpinteria to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second.
The back-and-forth play continued throughout the first half until Malibu tacked on three goals in the third quarter to take a lead.
Carpinteria High rallied back in the fourth quarter as Shaw and Junius Fedders each scored, but Malibu held on down the stretch for the two-goal win.
Stefano Picoletti kept the Warriors in the game from the goalkeeper position, totaling a game-high 16 blocks.
Carpinteria will head up the hill to take on Cate next Tuesday for a rivalry matchup.
