Two brothers were arrested in Taft Sunday evening in connection with a fatal shooting in Santa Maria less than 24 hours earlier.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday , Santa Maria Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 1200 block of West Main Street, near Blosser Road, Lt. Daniel Rios said.
Upon arrival, officers located a woman with life-threatening injuries, Rios added.
She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
On Sunday, Santa Maria detectives, in collaboration with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, located and arrested two individuals in connection with a recent homicide, Lt. Andy Magallon said Monday.
Two brothers, both of Santa Maria, were located in Taft, on the western edge of Kern County, at approximately 6 p.m. and taken into custody without incident.
“Through diligent investigative work following the homicide, detectives identified both men as being involved,” Magallon said.
Victoriano Lopez Feliciano, 27, was arrested on suspicion of murder while Gabriel Lopez Feliciano, 32, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessary.
Police didn’t reveal a possible motive for the fatal shooting or whether the brothers knew the victim.
The woman’s name, age and hometown was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
On Monday morning, the pair remained in the custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail with Victoriano Lopez Feliciano’s bail set at $2 million, while Gabriel Lopez Feliciano’s bail is $1 million.
