Bryce Warrecker scored 34 points, and the Santa Barbara High boys basketball team picked up its defensive intensity after a rocky start and beat Quartz Hill, 70-50, at the Simi Tip-Off Classic on Wednesday.
“We got of to a very poor start defensively, allowing 25 points in the first 11 minutes,” said Santa Barbara coach Corey Adam. “After that, our defense really stepped up, allowing 25 points for the remaining 21 minutes of the game.”
Stephen Davis chipped in 14 points for Santa Barbara (2-2).
Adam was pleased how his team stepped up and took charge.
“We had a good effort after the slow start from a bunch of guys, including juniors Erik Strandberg and Dylan Borgeson,” said Adam.
Santa Barbara returns to the tournament on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game.
