For the first time since changing its schedule, the Buellton City Council will meet Monday night.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at City Council Chambers, 140 W. Highway 246.

The council voted 3-2 in early July to move regular meetings from the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. 

The panel skipped the second meeting of July, making this the first since approving the change.

Discussion about the switch centered on conference schedules, staff workflow and a lack of enough physically present council members to make up a quorum. 

It also accommodates Mayor David Silva’s additional role as member of the California Air Resources Board, which meets the fourth Thursday of the month in Sacramento. 

Since his appointment to the state board in March, Silva has remotely attended the Buellton council meetings in late May and late June.

Agenda items for Monday’s meeting include a Veggie Rescue presentation, billboard discussion and Winter Fest drone show vendor selection. 

Additionally, the council will hear a progress report for the Santa Ynez Valley Children’s Museum and request for the second installment of city funding for the project. 

Councilmembers also will consider a sixth amendment to the contract for City Manager Scott Wolfe, plus a salary hike including both cost of living adjustment and merit increase. Buellton City Council agendas are located here, while meetings are available on YouTube by clicking here.

The Monday meetings in Buellton will occur the same night as the Solvang City Council meetings, which start at 6:30 p.m. with the open session in Council Chambers at Solvang City Hall, 1644 Oak St. This week, the Solvang council will meet at 5 p.m. and quickly go into a closed session to discuss a number of items before returning for the open session.

During the hefty open session’s agenda, the council will hold public hearings on a tobacco shop proposal and a license renewal to operate horse-drawn vehicles in the city with Horzes Entertainment, operator of Solvang Trolley & Carriage Company.

The panel also will hear a report on the Urban Boundary Exploration Committee, a survey on a Fredensborg Canyon Road multipurpose trail, land purchases and more.
