Burlington Stores has donated $5,000 to Adam Elementary School through its partnership with the national nonprofit organization AdoptAClassroom.org, to mark the opening of its new store at Plaza del Sol Shopping Center in Santa Maria.
“Funds will be used toward essential school supplies to help ensure students at Adam have the learning materials and tools they need to succeed now and in the future,” the Santa Maria-Bonita School District officials said.
A representative from AdoptAClassroom.org reached out to Jose Segura, director of Community Schools, to secure the donation.
Adam plans to use the funds for a variety of classroom enhancements, including updated literacy kits, STEM manipulatives, and essential student stationery supplies that often come out of teachers’ own pockets.
“On behalf of the Santa Maria-Bonita School District, I would like to welcome our new local Burlington store to Santa Maria and thank them for their generous donation through their partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org,” said Tamara Brown, Adam principal.
“Our teachers are excited to have the opportunity to shop locally and provide students with tools they need to be successful students,” Brown said. “We are thankful for the support we received from Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org.”
As part of Burlington’s holistic community giving approach, each time Burlington opens a new location, they celebrate by “adopting” and funding local classrooms, the company said.
