Carpinteria’s Heather Olmstead, the women’s volleyball coach at BYU, made NCAA history last week, becoming the fastest to reach the 200-win milestone.

The 16th-ranked Cougars defeated No. 17 Pepperdine (25-12, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22)  for her 200th win in just 225 matches. She passes Hawaii’s Dave Shoji, who reached 200 wins in 236 games.

Olmstead is in her eighth year as the head coach at BYU. Her seven-year record of 191-22 (.896) is the highest winning  percentage of any women’s volleyball coach in NCAA Division 1 history and the highest in any division over a minimum of three seasons.

She is the third-fastest coach to reach 100 Division 1 wins (111 games).

BYU is currently 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in the West Coast Conference.

Olmstead is a graduate of Carpinteria High. She recently was inducted into the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame.
