Santa Ynez’s Caleb Cassidy put the game out of reach with a grand slam in the seventh inning for a 8-3 win over crosstown rival Dunn Thursday.

The Pirates took a 4-0 lead into the sixth, when Dunn battled back on hits by Noah Waters and Theodore Anderson to push three runs across.

Dunn still had the bases loaded when Owen Hunt came in to put out the threat.

Jackson Cloud started the game for Santa Ynez and went into the sixth, scattering four hits and striking out nine. Hunt earned the save with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Hunt also had two hits. Cassidy was 2-for-4 with a double to go with his slam for four RBI. Victor Heredia went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

“Great baseball game,” Santa Ynez coach Warren Dickey said. “Proud of the team doing the little things — baserunning, defense, execution — that produced great results.

“Big-time credit to Caleb, who has really turned it on the past month. His hard work is paying off. Also Owen Hunt, one of our ultra-competitors. He rose to the occasion today.”

The Pirates are now 13-6 overall. Dunn is 7-9.
