Celebrate Halloween in Santa Barbara by unearthing your inner zombie with World Dance for Humanity (WD4H).

Community members are invited to learn the iconic “Thriller” dance, then participate in Thrill the World, Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens.

WD4H has hosted Santa Barbara’s Thriller event since 2010, joining thousands of zombies around the world who rise from the ground at the same moment in time (3 p.m. locally), casting away inhibitions to create a spooktacular community experience.

Thriller practices, which start Saturday, Sept. 20, are held at 9:45 a.m. Saturdays at Chase Palm Park beachfront, and 6 p.m. Wednesdays on the dance stage at Oak Park.

Thriller is taught from scratch at each practice, so it is never too late to join.

The goal is to register 100 zombies to “Get Scary for Charity” at the Oct 25 performance. WD4H also performs Thriller flashmobs all over town for the two weeks leading up to Thrill the World.

Thriller is a fundraising event for WD4H. Money raised from event sponsors and dancer donations go to the WD4H Rwanda Education Fund supporting some 300 students attending high school and college, and to the Westside Boys and Girls Club.

World Dance offers low-cost classes six days a week, and provides humanitarian aid year ’round, working with vulnerable communities in Rwanda, and bringing emergency aid to its partners in Ukraine.
