Caltrans District 5 annual Employee Scholarship is now open and accepting applications until Thursday, May 15.

Applications are open to students graduating from high school within District 5, which includes the counties of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey.

This year, three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors. The scholarship money is raised by Caltrans employees through snack and coffee sales at District 5 offices.

The scholarships are intentionally made to recognize and assist students who are planning on pursuing a transportation-related career.

The field of transportation is broad and employs different types of jobs and careers such as engineers, transportation planners, environmental planners, archologists, land surveyors, mechanics, electricians, and landscape architects.

These scholarships will be awarded in June. The application form and further information can be found on Caltrans’ website, and must be postmarked or emailed by May 15 to:

Debbie Barlow, Caltrans District 5 Employee Scholarship, 50 Higuera St., San Luis Obispo, CA  93401.
