To provide a closer look at the pet establishments in Santa Barbara County, Noozhawk has conducted a series of interviews with representatives of local businesses for this year’s Four-Legged Friends and More Guide that will be sure to have your tail wagging.
In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Jayne Sigman, General Manager/CFO at Camp Canine, to learn more about the dog watching and spa services they offer.

Question: What is the name of your business or practice?
Answer: Camp Canine, Inc.
Q: What is the mission behind your business?
A: We provide tender loving care and a safe environment for dogs to play. Our commitment to the dogs is that they have plenty of fun and look forward to their return to camp!
Q: What types of animals does your business cater to?
A: Dogs.
Q: Can you describe the services or products your business offers?
A: We provide overnight lodging, doggie day care and full spa services.
Q: How long have you been in this industry?
A: 40 years.
Q: What makes your business unique?
A: We have over 35 years of experience handling dogs, our employees are highly trained and take pride in making sure all dogs have fun. Our “camp” theme with waterfalls and grass make you feel like you are at summer camp for dogs.
Q: What training, education and experience do you and your staff have?
A: We have a trainer on property with over 40 years of experience. We train our staff to monitor play time and to be aware of signs of aggression. We are proactive in keeping the play safe and playful.
Q: How do you manage behavioral problems?
A: Temperament tests are performed on all dogs before they are accepted as clients. That being said, the nature of putting dogs together can result in small scuffles. We are proactive in keeping the play safe and monitored at all times.
Q: Do you work with all breeds/ age groups?
A: Yes.
Q: What do you do if a pet is aggressive towards you, your staff, or other animals?
A: We try not to accept aggressive dogs into our facility. If a behavior shows up after the dog has been evaluated, we will refer them to get outside training before the behavior becomes problematic.
Q: What advice would you give to a new pet owner?
A: Socialize them as early as possible!
Q: Are you currently accepting new clients?
A: Yes.
Q: How do you help make your client feel at ease leaving their pet in your care?
A: We make every customer and dog feel like they are the most important dog here, because they are! Our staff truly loves each dog as their own, and treats them as such.
Q: What are your hours of operation?
A: Monday through Friday 7am-7pm, Saturdays 9am-5pm and Sundays 11am-4pm.
Q: What is one fun fact about your business?
A: We are a family run business providing personal care and pride ourselves in making lifelong relationships.
