Presiding Judge Gustavo E. Lavayen has announced the selection of Carol Lee Hubner as the court’s newest Superior Court commissioner.
Hubner graduated summa cum laude with a juris doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1998; a bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 1990; and a master’s degree in Spanish in 1991, the latter two degrees from Stanford University. She is fluent in Spanish and French.
Lavayen said Hubner has a remarkable record of providing representation for children in juvenile dependency proceedings in northern Santa Barbara County. She previously served as deputy County Counsel III, where she represented the Department of Social Services in the area of Child Welfare Services.
Hubner was selected after an application and interview process that included a field of competitive applicants.
Lavayen welcomed Hubner to the bench saying, “She has the experience, demeanor and intellect to excel as a Santa Barbara Superior Court judicial officer and will provide outstanding service to our community.”
Hubner will be sworn in on a date to be determined.
Superior Court commissioners hear matters, including, but not limited to, family law, child support, domestic violence and civil harassment. Commissioners must be active members in good standing with the State Bar of California and be admitted to practice law in California for at least 10 years.
