Ainslee Alexander led a strong performance in the field events by the Carpinteria girls, helping the team win the Citrus Coast League track & field championship on Thursday.
The Warriors won the league finals meet with 132 points and went undefeated in the dual meet season to claim the outright title.
The Carpinteria boys finished third in the CCL meet with 87 points. Undefeated Fillmore took first place with 147 points and claimed the league title.
Ainslee Alexander won two individual league titles, taking the triple jump at 33-6.25 and the pole vault with a mark of 8-9. She also finished second in the long jump and third in the shot put.
Alexander will be advancing to the CIF Prelims next week at Carpinteria.
The other field-event winner for Carpinteria was Amarisse Camargo in the shot put (29-5). Warriors who racked up points include Avery Alexander (2nd in triple jump, 3rd in long jump), Anna Morrison (3rd in TJ), Ariana Lounsbury (third in discus) and Dana Mora (fourth in discus. All of those athletes advanced to the prelims.
On the track, Mika Mullikin won the 300 hurdles (54.01) and Lela Roberts took second in the 100 hurdles. Both qualified for the prelims.
“The girls had another solid meet,” said coach Van Latham. “Their prowess in the field events shown through once again.
“It was a great accomplishment to win our second league title in the last three years.”
For the Carpinteria boys, Chris Ceja won the 400 meters with a time of 53.91 and Ivan Vargas won the long jump at 19-3.25 and the pole vault at 100 feet. They both advanced to the prelims.
Other boys to advance are Wes Chung (2nd in 110 high hurdles and 300 hurdles), Erick Trejo (3rd in the 110 hurdles), Israel Samaguey (2nd in the pole vault) and Juan Vargas, who achieved a 12-foot personal record in the discus and finished second with mark of 127-6.
“Although the boys were few in numbers at the league meet, they performed very well to finish third in the league,” said Latham.
The CIF-SS Division 4 Prelims will be in Carpinteria on Saturday, May 6, beginning at 11 a.m.
