Sophia Mora scored two goals, while Emma Miller and Lela Roberts led a solid defensive performance by the Carpinteria girls soccer team in a 4-0 win over Nordhoff in a Citrus Coast League opener on Wednesday.

Mora scored in the sixth minute after picking off a Nordhoff clearance and striking the ball from 25 yards.

Three minutes later, Kelly Hernandez finished a cross from Miller for a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors’ third goal came in the 52nd minute, when a combination play from Hernandez put Evelyn Lara into space to take on the goalkeeper one on one for the goal.

Mora put in a well-placed free kick in the back of the net in the 76th minute.

“The girls played great tonight and got some awesome performances from all the members of the team, regardless if they were starters or were subbed in,” said coach Freddy Martinez. “I feel that our roster depth is going to be one of the key factors to our success this year.”

Carpinteria is now 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Warriors travel to Channel islands on Friday for another league match.
