The Carpinteria girls took a non-league doubleheader against Channel Islands Thursday by scores of 7-2 and 15-3, a makeup from a scheduled event postponed by torrential rains earlier this month.
“Both games saw the starting line up for the first quarter and then intermittently throughout,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “It allowed younger player development with a couple of the starting players.”
In the first game, the Warriors took a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, with four different players scoring. The score was 4-1 after three quarters, then Giulia Piccoletti found the net three times in the fourth for the 7-2 win.
Piccoletti scored four goals in the game, and Kate Isaac, Monica Delgado and Lilli Nemetz had one goal each.
“As substitutions were made, team defense was instilled as always, counter attacks were plentiful but the Warriors did not take advantage of them as the priority was to set up the front court offense,” Otsuki said.
In the second game, Carpinteria’s starters again took a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. The Warriors led 9-2 at halftime.
“Channel Islands was more fatigued than the Warriors, as indicated by the disparity of the score,” Otsuki said.
Piccoletti, Taylor Classen, Allison Banks, Francis Bennett, Monica Delgado and Malaya Morente all scored two goals apiece, and Ximena Briceno, Nemetz and Isaac scored one apiece.
The Warriors, 12-6 overall and 4-0 in Citrus Coast League play, will host league contender Nordhoff on Tuesday, for Senior Recognition Day.
