Carpinteria Girls Volleyball bounced back with a win over Pacifica on Tuesday following a season-opening loss to Foothill Tech on Monday.
These were the first two matches of the year for the Warriors and head coach Marc Denitz, who returned to the team this season after a multi-year break from coaching at Carpinteria.
Monday
To open the season, Carpinteria struggled in the 3-0 loss at Foothill Tech. The scores were 25-14, 25-8, 25-14.
The Warriors were led by Averi Alexander, who turned in seven kills and five digs. Alexiana Jaimes also collected 11 assists.
According to Denitz, the team’s “limited experience and reduced roster” showed in the first regular-season action of the year.
Tuesday
The very next day, the Warriors bounced back with a tight five-set victory at home against Pacifica with the scores being 25-17, 25-19, 25-14, 25-20, 15-12.
After winning the first two sets relatively comfortably, Pacifica stormed back with back-to-back set wins to force a deciding fifth and final set. There, Carpinteria prevailed.
The Warrior attack included eight kills and eight digs from Liz Alpizar. Meanwhile, libero Ashlee Mora added in 15 digs, Camila Martinez tallied five kills and four blocks and Kenny Valencia recorded 15 assists.
Carpinteria will take its 1-1 record into its next matchup at Rio Mesa on Thursday at 6 p.m.
